The periodicals study room is on the first floor of the main University Library building (Bráfova Street). The sets of periodicals are arranged in alphabetical order and can only be read in the study room itself; you are not allowed to borrow them and take them home with you. Only recent years are displayed in the study room itself; if you want an issue from an earlier year, you can order it via the University Library catalogue and it will be prepared for you to view in the periodicals study room within three working days.
You can borrow audio documents (CDs/DVDs and teaching cassettes) for 14 days. You can also view/listen to audiovisual documents (CDs/DVDs), including films, at the media library itself. You can borrow mp3 audio books for 14 days. These types of documents are only loaned to students and staff of the University of Ostrava.
It holds a range of printed documents (including journals) focusing on main areas of study at the Faculty of Social Studies You can borrow documents to take home overnight or over a weekend.
The periodicals study room has computers (with internet connections), printing facilities (black/white or colour), scanners (up to A3 size), copying facilities, headphones, a cellphone charger, and a power cube. If you want to connect your own laptop using the wi-fi service, use the Eduroam network. You can use the quiet corner for undisturbed study.
If you need the full texts of articles from journals published outside the Czech Republic, use the EDS / Ebsco Discovery Service. To create, administer and share bibliographic citations, we recommend the Citace PRO tool. If you need help using it, please ask a member of staff in the periodicals study room.
